In recent decades New York City has contributed billions more in taxes to Washington, D.C. and Albany than it has received back in services for the safety, health and well-being of its residents. The state and federal governments tax New York City $20 billion more than they provide the city annually in services and funding.

This imbalance, perpetuated over the course of decades, costs New York City a lot more than just dollars and cents - it costs the city better schools, safer neighborhoods and more jobs.

In times of economic hardship this burden can be crippling. Even in the best of times it makes New York City less competitive.   And at all times it diminishes the city’s potential for economic growth and its residents’ quality of life.

Fair Share New York provides the thousands of civic-minded New Yorkers and businesses that contribute to political candidates the information they need to effectively advocate on the city’s behalf.
